Testing

Get ready for your California DMV drive test

Pass your drive test with Tri Valley

The behind-the-wheel drive test is the final step to your California driver license. It takes about 20 minutes, and a DMV examiner scores how safely you handle turns, stops, lane changes, backing, and freeway driving. We make sure you walk in ready.

Schedule your test

Drive tests are given by appointment at your local DMV field office. Book your appointment through the California DMV. If you are under 18, you will need your instruction permit, proof of completed driver education and behind-the-wheel training, and 50 hours of supervised practice, including 10 hours at night.

What to bring and what to expect

Bring a vehicle that is safe and legal: working turn signals, brake lights, horn, tires, and brakes, two license plates, two mirrors, a working driver window, and seat belts. You will also need proof of insurance. Driver-assist features such as automated parking are not allowed during the test, and your examiner will check that everything works before you begin.

Practice with a pro first

The best way to pass is to practice the exact skills the examiner scores. Our instructors coach you through each maneuver, calm the nerves, and can add a pre-test prep lesson so you feel confident on test day.
